Until The Next Fishing Hole

Alright I’m still waiting for some ice to form on the lakes in my area so I can do a true fishing blog but with temps. averaging in the mid to upper 30’s my options are a little limited. So I’m go to blog about my favorite catfish bait. When you ask most people about stink bait the major consensus is that it’s garbage and doesn’t work. In 99% of cases that is completely true. But there is always that 1%. That 1% is Sonny’s Super Sticky Catfish Bait.

First I would like to give you a little back ground on this company. It is owned by Sonny and Cherl Hootman. They are located in Farmington Iowa. They have been in business for 29 years and employee about 4 people. To me you couldn’t ask for a more perfect business. It has everything its a small family business. That loves what they do. Doing it to not become rich but to supply a good product that would be willing to use themselves. They don’t even have a web site. But they do have a phone number that you can reach them at. Id post a link here but I don’t know how to do it. Just give them a call you can order your stink bait right from them. Also they don’t accept credit cards so they will have you send them a check. Last spring me and 2 of my friends each ordered a 5 gallon bucket and it took about a week for it to show up. Yes i did say a 5 gallon bucket.

So all in all I would recommend this to anyone that wants to catch some fish. I always catch great numbers of cat with this bait and not just little ones either. I’ve caught cat’s between 1 to 26 pounds with this bait. Spring Summer and Fall this bait will work for you. Just smear some on your little holey plastic plug and toss it in the water. No special instructions required. Easy enough for a child to do. Trust me my 4-year-old boy baits his own pole. Before long I think he will be out fishing me. But that’s a whole nother story in itself.

Woman in Wal-Mart

A woman goes into Wal-mart to buy a rod and reel. She doesn’t know which one to get, so she just grabs one and goes over to the register. There is a Wal-mart associate standing there with dark glasses on. She asks, “Excuse me sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?” He says, “Ma’am I’m blind, but if you drop it on the counter I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound that it makes.” She didn’t believe him, but dropped it all on the counter anyway.

He said “That’s a 6′ graphite rod with Zebco 202 reel and 10 lb. test line. It’s a good all around rod and reel, and it’s $20.” She says, “That’s amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I think it’s what I’m looking for, so I’ll take it.”

He walks behind the counter to the register. And in the meantime, the woman farts. At first she is embarrassed, but then realizes that there is no way he could tell it was she. Being blind, he wouldn’t know that she was the only person around.

He rings up the sale and says, “That will be $25.50.”

She asks, “But didn’t you say it was $20?”

He says, “Yes ma’am, the rod and reel is $20, the duck call is $3, and the catfish stink bait is $2.50!”

Samsung mesmerize

At first glance you are probably wondering why there is a post on a fishing blog about a cell phone. But it has everything to do with a fishing blog because I do not have Internet in my home. I guess only because i’m cheap. The other reason is it gives me portability if i’m Fishing or hunting i can make an instant post while everything is fresh in my head.

So on to the review. I have been a faithful blackberry man for about the last 5 years. I lived and died by my blackberry. So I was a little worried about changing to an Android phone. At first I didn’t like it at all because my brain had been warped by RIM and Blackberry. On this android phone everything is different from a Blackberry.

After 5 days with this phone I had just about given up on it. The ringtones were pissing me off. The auto texting was kicking my ass. Moving pictures was pissing me off. I just couldn’t get anything to work. It seemed as if Android had forgot to install half of the programs for this phone. But last night I woke up out of a dead sleep with a popular commercial slogen in my head.”There’s an APP for That”. That was the end of all my problems. They didn’t forget to add half the programs for the phone they leave some out so you can personalize your phone and make it your’s. Trust me when I tell you THERE IS AN APP FOR THAT. If you can think of it, it already exsists.

So in closing if you want a phone that is fast and will do everything but walk the dog. Then this is a phone that will bring you into the 21 century.

Wait a minute an APP for walking the dog………? Crap I think there is an APP for that. Hahahaha

Stinkbait For Winter Cats

I had a recent comment on one of my posts if I fish for Cats in the winter and if i used stink bait for them. So I wanted to take the time to answer that Question. The answer is Yes and No. Although I have personally not had much luck doing so I have heard of people using it with much luck. On Lake Mendota the north-east corner of the lake by the rock pile is a great place to try to catch a cat through the ice. A lot of people including myself use Chubs, minnows or my favorite cut up carp.  Stink bait in my opinion is not really made to be used in the winter. It gets to hard and thick even when thinned down with some cooking oil. On top of those problems in  the spring when it warms up you have to add flour to your stink bait to firm it back up. So if you really wanted to fish for cats in the winter it is possible to catch them with stink bait. I just think you will get bored and head home empty handed way before you head home with a limit of Cats.

There are so many more fish that you can catch at this time of year its a waste to spend all that time trying to catch a fish that pretty inactive in the winter. I suggest some jigging for panfishing or some tip ups for Walleye, and Northern.

I hope that answered the question of the commenter. If anyone else Has any questions or helpful hints please post and I will do my best to get through all of them. Because without you my fellow blog followers I am just putting words on a screen. We all have the same goal and that’s to become better fishermen.

Ice Fishing

Wow the weather is just crazy for this time of year. I sure thought that I would be ice fishing by this time but with a high of 50 today that’s not going to happen. Starting to wonder if im going to get to out at all. I do think that when it finally decides to get cold that it is going to be so cold that you don’t even want to go outside. I guess that comes with living in Wisconsin. Everyone knows the saying for Wisconsin “If you don’t like the weather just wait 5 minutes.” I bought a new power auger this summer and im Just itching to try it out. In the past it was always a hand auger which limited me to where I could fish because a person just gets tired of drilling holes. So I had some pretty high hopes for this ice fishing season. there is still plenty of time left so I think I will still get my fill of ice fishing.

Until the next fishing hole

This year on opening day of trout season the weather was actually decent for the first time in 4 years. We had 3 years of cold, rainy and miserable. So it was great to have a nice opening day this year. This year the fishing was kind of slow. We spent 2 hours at our opening hole that we always start. Between 6 of us fishing we caught i think 2 keepers. Usually we catch about half of our fish at this spot. This year it took us about 10 spots and most of the day. Maybe the nice weather was a double edged sword. Finally at about 3 in the afternoon we all limited out.

It wasnt that we werent catching any fish it was that they we all between 5-8 inches long. It was as if we were following the stocking truck. Everyone that we talked to said the same thing. With that said maybe in a couple of years there will be some great fishing in the area that we go. I normally would share the area that im fishing in because i feel that good fishing is for all to enjoy.   In this case I am choosing not to only because it already gets fished really hard and most people would think that it’s a total waste of time. For most people it’s about catching as many fish as they can. but for me its more about hanging out with my friends and getting away for the busy city life.

On the Left is fuzzy he is one of the nicest guys that you could ever meet. but the guy has the worst luck  in the world. If something is going to go bad at some point during the day its probably going to be fuzzy. As you can see fuzzy is not holding a fish. This picture was taken right after he caught probably the biggest trout of the day. He pulled it up on to shore where he is crouched down there the fish flopped around spit the hook and went in the water. It was probably a 16 or 17 inches.

All in all we had a pretty good day. Didnt catch any state record fish but we sure did have a good time. These days its hard for all of us to get together because we don’t all live in the same area anymore. I live in Fort Atkinson, Ev is moving to Florida, and Fuzzy still lives in Boscobel. So these opening days of Trout season will be the only time that we can get together. We are all very religious about being there on opening day so im sure that there will be many more to come.

Until the next fishing hole.

                                                                                                   Look What I can do!

This is my fishing partner Lew. Lew grew up in Idaho and used to be a semi pro. Bass Fisherman. Now he is a grumpy old Maintenance man where I work. Although I wouldn’t trade him as a fishing partner for nothing. Lew is retiring in a couple of months and is looking forward to all the days that he is going to be able to dedicate to fishing. personally I think he’s looking for any reason to get out of the house. But don’t tell his wife that i said that.

This is a nice stringer of fish. On this day I had a stringer of the same quality. It wasnt the number or the size of the fish that made this day special it was where we caught them. It was a hot July day and we weren’t really expecting to catch anything so we decided to go to the boat landing on QQ Between Waterloo Wi. and Watertown Wi. We had never been there before and just wanted to be on the water not caring if we caught anything or not. We fished in about 1 1/2 feet of water, it was close to 100 degrees and the sun was just baking everything. In the first half an hour of fishing we had 10 cats between us and they were all over an average sized cat for that area at about a 3-5 pound average. In an hour and a half we each had our 10 fish. unbelievable and out of the normal.

We were using the only Stink Bait that is worth a crap and that’s Sonny’s Super Sticky Catfish Bait. I live and die by that stuff. I have tried countless types of stink bait and Sonny’s is the only one that will regular catch’s you fish. Not only do we always catch fish we always catch our limit of fish. So if you want to catch Catfish I strongly recommend Sonny’s. I’ve been using it for about four years. I go catfishing probably 40-50 days a year and out of those ruffly 200 days I can count on one hand the number of times that i did NOT get my limit. That number is 3. So 197 of the 200 times i have went i have limited out. unbelievable by anyone’s standard.

Well untill the next fishing hole

Hello everyone I am new to blogging. i made this blog to share with you my fishing adventures and stories. Hopfully you can pick up a helpful tip or trick along the way. We here in Wisconsin are between river fishing and ice fishing so it may be a little slow on blogging for the next couple weeks. Catfishing is my first love i love to just sit in a boat kicked back and shoot the crap with a buddy or two waiting for a Kitty to hit my pole. the picture attached to this is of a 16 pound cat out of the Rock river between Jefferson and Johnson creek in Jefferson county. Quite large cat for this area of the rock river. If all works like i plan you will be reading this post. Have my fingers crossed that it will work the first time that i try. Till the next time.
