This year on opening day of trout season the weather was actually decent for the first time in 4 years. We had 3 years of cold, rainy and miserable. So it was great to have a nice opening day this year. This year the fishing was kind of slow. We spent 2 hours at our opening hole that we always start. Between 6 of us fishing we caught i think 2 keepers. Usually we catch about half of our fish at this spot. This year it took us about 10 spots and most of the day. Maybe the nice weather was a double edged sword. Finally at about 3 in the afternoon we all limited out.
It wasnt that we werent catching any fish it was that they we all between 5-8 inches long. It was as if we were following the stocking truck. Everyone that we talked to said the same thing. With that said maybe in a couple of years there will be some great fishing in the area that we go. I normally would share the area that im fishing in because i feel that good fishing is for all to enjoy. In this case I am choosing not to only because it already gets fished really hard and most people would think that it’s a total waste of time. For most people it’s about catching as many fish as they can. but for me its more about hanging out with my friends and getting away for the busy city life.
On the Left is fuzzy he is one of the nicest guys that you could ever meet. but the guy has the worst luck in the world. If something is going to go bad at some point during the day its probably going to be fuzzy. As you can see fuzzy is not holding a fish. This picture was taken right after he caught probably the biggest trout of the day. He pulled it up on to shore where he is crouched down there the fish flopped around spit the hook and went in the water. It was probably a 16 or 17 inches.
All in all we had a pretty good day. Didnt catch any state record fish but we sure did have a good time. These days its hard for all of us to get together because we don’t all live in the same area anymore. I live in Fort Atkinson, Ev is moving to Florida, and Fuzzy still lives in Boscobel. So these opening days of Trout season will be the only time that we can get together. We are all very religious about being there on opening day so im sure that there will be many more to come.
